POLSCI 2D03 2020 Spring Term Democracy in Canada

This Spring term, the Political Science Department will be offering a fully online course taught by Dr. Heather Bastedo (POLSCI 2D03: Democracy in Canada).

Apr 28, 2020

This course examines the basic structure and operation of democracy in Canada, thereby bringing democracy to life. Topics will focus on the structures underlying Canada’s governing system, providing students with a detailed understanding of its rules and institutions. Knowing the rules will equip students with the ability to make informed predictions for both political behaviour and future political outcomes.

Rather than having lectures that students must tune into at a specific time, the course will be designed to allow students to work at their own pace.  Key themes will be explored in a series of PowerPoint presentation modules that will combine readings with short audio discussions recorded by the instructor.  Students will be evaluated using a combination of written assignments, online participation, and a take-home exam.

Guests have been invited to animate the course material, including The Agenda’s Steve Paikin, MPP for Scarborough South-West, Doly Begum, and MP for Wellington-Halton Hills, Michael Chong, will occur at scheduled times via Zoom.

Students with questions are encouraged to email Dr. Bastedo (
